The Utah Nursing Assistant Registry (UNAR) has recently updated their skills curriculum, which has changed some of the specifics that students are tested on. All state Skills Exams offered after July 1, 2018 will be conducted according to the new, updated protocols. This is the same for any program in the state and not just Utah CNA Training Centers. Utah CNA Training Centers has changed its curriculum to match the new protocols for all classes starting after April 1, 2018.

What Does This Mean?

  • As of July 1, 2018, any student who takes the skills exam will be tested on the NEW SKILLS testing protocols.
  • Anyone who tests BEFORE July 1, 2018 will be tested on the OLD Skills protocols.

What Should You Do?

  • If you can, take the Knowledge Exam as soon as possible after you graduate.
  • If you can, take the Skills Exam as soon after July 1, 2018 as you can.
  • If you HAVE to test before July 1, 2018, don’t worry. We are offering a skills bridge program (see below) that is free that will help you learn how to test the old way.

What Changed?

  • Only the Skills Exam portion of State Testing has changed. The Knowledge exam will be the same before or after July 1st, 2018 and we recommend that you take it as soon as you finish your CNA class.
  • The changes to the Skills Exam are relatively minor. The skills being tested on are still the skills taught in classes with few adjustments. Students who are firm in their skills knowledge will likely still pass, simply by reviewing the differences between the old and new skills.
  • To review the differences and fully understand precisely what has changed, you can view both Handbooks/Guides on this website:

SKILLS BRIDGE PROGRAM

This four-hour class is designed specifically for students who plan to take the Skills Exam before July 1st, 2018. Again, if you can wait until after July 1st to take the state Skills Exam, you should, and you do not need to attend a Skills Bridge class.

  1. Schedule your UNAR Skills Exam through Testmaster Universe FIRST. Instructions on scheduling your exams can be found in your Utah CNA Centers Workbook.
  2. Then, review the list of Bridge Class dates below and choose one that fits your schedule.
